This artwork was created as a contribution to naturalism, in which humans are shaped by uncontrollable forces of nature. The subject is made from the materials of the earth, ages with time, and will inevitably return to the earth. This process is done by a world indifferent to life, age, and death, and applies to all things in our modern world (including humans and objects). The bonsai within this artwork reiterates this idea, as it will grow, age, and die with time. It thus provides a tangible living thing that experiences this process before the viewer’s eyes, symbolizing the life cycle and the indifferent world.
